Want to add social media marketing to your overall marketing plan but don’t know where to begin?

So most of us read a book or two by some supposed marketing guru We spend time on the internet looking through the sites that claim to know the answers to ALL our marketing questions or better still they have the right equation to help us grow our business to monumental proportions!!

How do I know this?? Well it's the path I took for Years - looking for answers.

Know what I found out??

Come on, you can guess??

I found out that there are no "simple" answers, no "one person's way to success"

The problem with most of these marketing gurus, or online "get rich quick" marketing messiahs is they don't really understand the inter-relationship of ALL the components of a good marketing strategy.

So I thought I would share what I've learned in 15 years of studying marketing, how to make marketing more effective and most importantly, how to market to make more money!

#1 Understand ALL the components involved in a good marketing strategy - and remember, marketing is the sum of ALL your advertising, Public Relations and Promotion.

#2 Good marketing strategy begins w/a review of the strengths and weakness of your company - it's hard but the list you develop is the foundation for your media message.

#3 A Good marketing strategy supports YOUR customer - so KNOW WHO YOUR CUSTOMER IS (demographics) and WHY THEY WANT TO BUY YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE (psychographics) Most businesses will get 80% of their sales from 20% of their customers. Know exactly who those 20% are and aim your marketing to that segment. When you sell a product it's not only important to know who bought it, but also why they bought. Why they were motivated to buy your product over your competitor's product.

#4 Understand your competition and position your company in relation to them - remember to successfully market a product or service, you must first know who your competition is. Know how you want your company, product or service to be perceived by customers. Image is important in the mind of the consumer. Decide whether you want to be known for low bargain prices, unlimited selection, top of the line customer service, or the highest quality of merchandise. Then position your business and marketing strategy accordingly. Don't try to be everything to everybody, pinpoint your customer and target his or her needs. As your business grows, prepare a strategic marketing plan looking at how your product and service will meet the long-term needs of your customers. Focus on specific marketing objectives, how to achieve them and a path of appropriate actions to take.

#5 As your business grows, prepare a strategic marketing plan looking at how your product or service will meet the long-term needs of your customers.

And finally - Want to know what MISTAKES people make in their marketing MOST often? This mistake is made by 99% of the companies marketing products or services.

Following Up with Your Customers. Yeap that's #1. Think about it, you pay lots of money to attract more clients, bring in more credible leads through your website, writings etc. and then You forget OR worse don't have the systems to follow up and continue that all important dialogue with your customers.

Following up with your customers is more than important...it's crucial!

You hit it right on the head!

I've been able to build a good business selling unique office organizers primarily by listening to my customer's needs and then adhering to the balance of staying in front of them without being annoying or overbearing.
